LEGEND:

  • (f/n) -First name
  • (h/c) -Hair color
  • (h/l) -Hair length
  • (e/c) -Eye color

It's my VERY first time writing a fan fiction so....well, here we go!

===========================================

(f/n) woke up to the sound of the birds chirping above her. It's been a while since she joined Yona's journey to find the reincarnated legendary dragons. At first, (f/n) was reluctant in escorting Kouka's princess on her dangerous adventure. She was perfectly happy with her peaceful life in the Wind Tribe. In truth, if she hadn't found out about Yona being Emperor Il's daughter when Hak brought her there, she wouldn't have cared for her at all. However, after accidentally eavesdropping on the princess' conversation with Hak and hearing about what Soo-Won has done, she felt a sudden a sense of duty mix up inside her heart. She had to protect the kingdom's rightful heir.

(f/n) was a woman, but she was a strong one. Along with Hak, she was also adopted by Mundok but later on taken in by one of his friends' family. Still, they grew up together. They both trained hard and became the one of the strongest fighters in their tribe. Back then, (f/n) had the upper hand. She would usually knock the poor boy over in a matter of seconds.

However, Hak quickly matured over the years. He became stronger and more skilled, it wasn't long until he became the man she adored and looked up to. He was still the same hot headed buffoon that she has known and cared for, but now that he's become the general, (f/n) had a new found respect for him.

Hak was devoted to the princess. That was the very reason why (f/n) felt that she, as well, must do her part for the kingdom. As expected, Hak told her not to get involved. But (f/n) was persistent. When Hak and the princess left in the middle of the night, she tracked them down and quietly followed them. When Hak discovered her hiding up on a tree, it was already too late to bring her back to the tribe. They've already gone too far to go back. He had no choice but to let (f/n) tag along.

Here they all are now, camping out in the open. (f/n) stood up and wiped the dirt off her pants. She stretched and let out a huge yawn before wringing out the tangles in her (h/l), (h/c) locks caused by her pleasant slumber the night before. She put her hands on her hips and inhaled the sweet morning scent.

"Ahhh! What a beautiful day it's going to be.", (f/n) cheerfully said.

"Oi! Stop staring out into the open and start looking for something to eat. We need breakfast!", said a familiar voice.

"Can't you even just take a few minutes to admire the beautiful scenery? Try to relax a little bit, Hak!", she replied.

"I would if my stomach wasn't starting to eat itself! I'm hungry, (f/n). And the princess will be as well. We need to have her food ready before she wakes up. Go now.", he ordered.

"Ehh? Why do I have to do it? Why don't you gather food instead? I can watch over the princess.", (f/n) proposed.

"No way am I letting her out of my sight. You know how troublesome it will be for all of us if something were to happen to her.", Hak replied.

"You're just using her as an excuse!", she accused.

"Am not!"

"Are, too!"

"Am not!"

"Are, too!"

"Am not!"

"Are, too!"

"Mhhmmmhh...What's going on? Are we being attacked?", Yona slowly peeked her head out from the tent.

"Great. You woke the princess! Nice job.", (f/n) said.
"What?! Now it's my fault?", Hak defended.
"Ughh...fine. Just to end this nonsense, I'll go. Okay? Are you happy now?", she asked.

(f/n) walked past Hak and took a bag from the supplies.

"Ah! Good, you're awake. Come with me!", she pointed at Yoon.
"Me?", he asked.
"Yes, you. Help me look for breakfast. We'll also be needing some firewood so I could use an extra pair of hands.", she said.

They were about to leave when Hak suddenly grabbed (f/n)' arm.
"Wait!", he blurted out.
"What?!", she asked.

"I...I uh..I don't think he needs to go with you.", Hak said.

"Excuse me? I need to gather fire wood and food for the Happy Hungry Bunch! We're not called Happy HUNGRY bunch for nothing. Aside from the princess, we all eat like beasts! Do you have any idea how much food we'll need?", (f/n) replied as she inched closer to Hak.

"I...It's just breakfast. I'm not asking you to gather supplies for an entire week! You can do it yourself. Besides, he has to help me watch over Yona and the others.", Hak pointed at Yoon.

"So you admit that you can't protect her all on your own? Has the great "Thunder Beast" lost its bite?", she teased.

Hak's face started turning pink as (f/n) moved closer. He held his hand in front of his face to cover his now flustered cheeks.

"Whatever! Just hurry up and get it over with! We have a long day ahead of us.", he said.

"Okay, okay.", (f/n) retreated. "Hey Yoon, are you all set?"
"Yeah. Let's go.", he replied.

The two made their way deep into the forest. It wasn't long until they arrived back at camp with all the things they needed.
"I think we have more than enough ingredients to make some stew. I'll go start the fire while you prepare the food.", (f/n) instructed.
"Sounds like a plan. Let's get started.", Yoon cheerfully replied.

After finishing her task, (f/n) noticed that it was taking Yoon too long to get everything done. Without another word, she went over to him and assisted in chopping the vegetables. While they were at it, they shared a couple of jokes which soon led to a series of boisterous laughter. An irritated Hak was secretly watching the two.

"Darn it! Why am I so uneasy?", he thought to himself. Somehow, the sight of (f/n) and Yoon together caused him annoyance. He left later on, unable to bear the fact that (f/n) is enjoying another man's company.

"(f/n), you and Hak seem to be really close. He's really lucky to have you.", Yoon said while peeling the potato in his hand.
"Yeah. We grew up together so we know each other well. Sure he can be a hot head, but he's a really nice person.", (f/n) replied.
"You like him, don't you?", Yoon said.
(f/n) face turned red as a tomato.
"WHAT?!", she blurted out. "Wha- what makes you think that?!"

"Oh come on, the way your eyes sparkle when we talk about him, is enough evidence. Plus, you seem so radiant when you're with him, even though most of the time you guys are fighting.", he said.
"Uggh, I'm hopeless. He must have noticed it by now. He knows, doesn't he?", (f/n), asked.
"I don't think he does. You should tell him how you feel. I'm sure he'll understand. Who knows, he could like you back.", he advised.
"I'd rather not.", she said. "Hak is fully devoted to the princess. I've seen the way he looked at Yona. She's beautiful, kind, caring, and genuine. How could I possibly ever compare?"

"The princess is the reason why we're all here. She's the heart and soul of our journey and we all swore to put her needs and wants first. However, that doesn't mean that you should deprive yourself of the happiness you deserve. Look, you're only assuming that Hak likes Yona. There's no guarantee that it's true.", Yoon insisted.
"Likes? The guy would die for her!...Well I mean I would throw my life for the princess, too, but you get the point!", (f/n) defended.
"Besides, I don't want to lose the friendship we already have. Yoon, you have to swear to NEVER tell anyone about this, ever again. Please, promise me.", she begged.

With a troubled heart, Yoon agreed. A few days passed by and (f/n) and Yoon grew closer together because of a new bond formed between them. (f/n) felt happy to find someone she could open up to. Unknown to her, another close friend was already on the edge of losing his mind.

"What's wrong with me? Arrgghhh! ", he screamed. "Why am I like this all of the sudden?", Hak asked himself. He hasn't slept in days. The image of (f/n) and Yoon together kept bugging his mind.

"Are you ok, Hak?", asked Jae Ha.
"How long have you been standing behind that tree?", he asked back.
"Long enough to come up with a solution to your dilemma.", the green-haired male confidently said.
"You have no idea with what I'm dealing with.", Hak assured him.
"Uh, yeah I do. It's about (f/n), right?", he guessed.
"No!", he lied. Jae Ha raise an eyebrow.
"Ok, it is! I haven't slept in days! I don't know what's wrong.", Hak complained.

"You don't suppose that maybe...just maybe, you're in love with her?", he asked.
"WHAT?! (F/N)?! That's impossible. I can't possibly be in love with her! We're just friends.
...Besides, I have to protect Yona. It's my duty. She's my priority now.", Hak said.

"Ok. You're probably right, (f/n) can take care of herself. But let me tell you something, Hak. Our journey is only going to get tougher and more dangerous from here. Yona has all of us. (f/n), she only has you. No one else would choose her over Yona.

In the midst of a fight, do you think that (f/n)'s skills are enough to keep her alive? She's not like the rest of us. She has her limitations. Just let that thought sink in.  If she were to die, is that fine with you? Living a life without (f/n), could your heart bear it?", Jae Ha asked before taking his leave.

After giving much thought to Jae Ha's words, Hak looked back to the memories he shared with (f/n). They were both left behind when they were kids. Her bright smile is what kept him going all these years. If that smile were to vanish from his sight, he'd be lost. He couldn't bear losing her or seeing her happy with someone else. He loved her.

That evening, after every one has already eaten. Hak and (f/n) were tasked to clean up. Every one else left and went to bed leaving the two enveloped in an awkward tension.

"I'll finish this. You can go and rest.", (f/n) told Hak.
"No, I'll help you.", he insisted taking the pot of leftovers from her hands.
"No, really, I can handle it.", she said pulling it back from Hak's grasp.
"I said I'll help already! Why are you so stubborn?!", he asked her once more tugging the pot from (f/n) causing it to drop to the ground.
"Look at what you did! Now it's an even bigger mess. Ughh..Seriously Hak, just leave me be. I'll handle it.", she said.

"What is your problem? You've been avoiding me for days.", he held her by the wrist.
"Nothing! Nothing's wrong.", she defended, trying to avoid eye contact.
"Why is it that you're suddenly too far from my reach? Did I do something? Is it because of Yoon? Did he say something to you?!", he angrily asked.
"Woah! Calm down, will you? Yoon has nothing to do with this. Leave him out of it. I've just been feeling a little under the weather. That's all.", she said.

"I see. But I don't want you spending too much time with him. You're just bothering the guy.", he ordered.
"Why are you like this all of the sudden? Are you my dad or something? You can't tell me who I can and can't be friends with. Yoon's a really great guy. He listens and understands me.", she protested.
"Yoon this, Yoon that, Yoon everything!! Would you stop talking about him already?! If you want help with something, just ask me instead.", he said.
"What?! This has nothing to do with chores and gathering supplies! Even if you tell me not to, I'll still hang out with Yoon. We enjoy each other's company. I don't know what your deal is with Yoon but back off, okay?", she said.

Hak didn't reply.
"Okay, you know what? We're both tired. Why don't we just get things over with? Let's sort out this misunderstanding tomorrow.", (f/n) said as she turned around to pick up the pot. She was caught by surprise when a pair of arms wrapped around her waist and hugged her from behind causing her face to turn bright red and her body to freeze in panic.

"Don't go.", he breathed out.
"Wha- what are you doing , Hak? Stop joking around and let me go. It's not funny!", she struggled.
His grip tightened. "Just listen for me for once!.....Please.", he begged.
"I don't like you spending too much time with Yoon because it annoys me so much. My mind can't be at ease knowing you're together. It pains and angers me. I know it's wrong to think negative things about him, but I just can't help it. I don't want you looking at other guys.", he explained.

Hak's hold loosened and (f/n) turned to face him. She cupped his cheeks and looked at him. She saw tears coming from his deep blue eyes. It was the first time she saw Hak cry. She didn't know what to say. The mighty Thunder Beast was now vulnerable in front of her.

"(F/n), I love you. I only realized it now. I...I'm sorry if I wasn't able to show it through my actions. Our enemies are getting fiercer and fiercer.
Every day could be our last... I just don't want to lose you. " , he said.

Hak's words were filled with such gentleness.

The spur of the moment caused the (h/c) girl to break into tears as well. Crystal like droplets fell form her (e/c) orbs.
"You idiot.", she said while trying to hide her crying face. "All this time, I thought you only had eyes for Yona. You're messing me up."
After seeing her crying face, He couldn't help himself.  Hak pulled (f/n) into a deep, warm embrace.

"Does that mean you feel the same way?", he asked.
"Would I cry in front of you if I didn't?", she replied.

In his arms, (f/n) felt safe, she was home. Hak hugged her tighter. They both knew at that moment, something worth more than their oath to the princess was stirring. It was something worth protecting. They discovered that their greatest duty was to their hearts.
